Participation of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) in the VI Readings in Memory of Archpriest John Grigorovich at the Minsk Theological Academy
On April 28, 2026, E.A.Makarenko, Director of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMLI), participated in the International Scientific and Practical Conference «VI Readings in Memory of Archpriest John Grigorovich (1792-1852): Historian, Philologist, Archaeographer», organized by the Department of Church History and Church Practical Disciplines of the Minsk Theological Academy.
The VI Readings in Memory of Archpriest John Grigorovich were attended by 107 representatives of the clergy and secular scholars. The readings were opened by Archimandrite Afanasy (Sokolov), Rector of the Minsk Theological Academy and Candidate of Theology. Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus Veniamin, and Chairman of the Slavgorod District Executive Committee M.V.Potapenko, PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Associate Professor, addressed the conference participants with welcoming remarks.
Plenary presentations were given by E.A. Makarenko, Director of the Archives and Museum; D.V.Shatov, Head of the Department of Church and Practical Historical Disciplines at the Kaluga Theological Seminary, doctoral student at the General Church Postgraduate and Doctoral Program named after Saints Cyril and Methodius, PhD in Theology (Obninsk, Russia); and A.V.Astapenko, Associate Professor at the Belarusian State University of Economics, Doctor of Historical Sciences, PhD in Physics and Mathematics, Professor, and writer.
In her presentation, E.A.Makarenko highlighted the role of the Belarusian State Academy of Literature and Art in preserving the memory of Archpriest I.Grigorovich and publishing his manuscript collection. «The Belarusian Archive of Ancient Letters».
The topic of the VI Memorial Readings for Archpriest John Grigorovich was presented in 12 sections moderated by Professor V.A.Teplova, Head of the Department of Church History at the Minsk Theological Academy; A.S.Khoteyev, Acting Director of the Chernyakhovsk Branch of Moscow State Pedagogical University and Candidate of Historical Sciences; M.F.Shumeiko, Professor of the Department of Source Studies at the Faculty of History at Belarusian State University; and others.
Archpriest John Grigorovich (secular name Ivan Ivanovich Grigorovich; 1792 – 1852) was a talented Belarusian archaeographer, a member of the Rumyantsev Circle, and the compiler of the first Belarusian archaeographic collection, «The Belarusian Archive of Ancient Letters». The original second volume of this work is kept at the Belarusian State Archive of Literature and Art.
