On the participation of the Zonal State Archives in Slutsk in the premiere screening of the documentary film «Chernobyl. Living Land». The film is dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster
On April 17, 2026, at the Belarus Cinema, employees of the Zonal State Archives in Slutsk took part in a preview screening of the documentary film «Chernobyl. Living Land». The film was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster.
The film was created in 2026 at the Belarusfilm National Film Studio by young director Marina Danekina. The film is more than just a documentary chronicle, but an emotional bridge connecting the present and the past. In 39 minutes, the filmmakers captured both the bitterness of the first hours after the tragic event and the sense of pride for the reborn region. Combining newsreel footage, eyewitness accounts from those involved in the events—rescuers, police officers, doctors, scientists, workers from industrial and agricultural enterprises, and ordinary residents of the affected regions, from the elderly to the young—with present-day footage, the film recreates a comprehensive picture of the nationwide effort to overcome the consequences of the disaster and restore Belarusian lands, led by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
Before the screening, cinema guests were able to view unique exhibits prepared by the regional state archives, education, and cultural institutions, as well as the 30th Separate Railway Brigade. A video clip featuring documents and photographs provided by Slutsk residents was also shown, which, as Natalya Karavaeva, Director of the Slutsk branch of the Minoblkinovideoprokat UP, noted, are particularly valuable.
The Chairman of the Slutsk District Organization named after Marshal G.K.Zhukov, head of the Belarusian Union of Officers’ Committee Sergei Makarov also addressed the audience, spoke about the events of 1986 that left a mark on his soul and memory.
