Presentation of an exhibition at the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (BSAMLI) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of artist Boris Arakcheyev’s birth

On April 2, 2026, the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BSAMLI) hosted the opening of the artistic and documentary exhibition «Mountain Roads. Caucasus», dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of artist, teacher, and Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus Boris Arakcheyev.

A recognized master of realistic painting and veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Boris Arakcheyev’s paintings reveal the monumentality of the image, the grandeur, and strength of the individual. He created unique series of paintings dedicated to the turbulent years of war and his postwar work. The artist’s works are held in the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus, museums and art galleries across the country, as well as in private collections in Belarus, Russia, and other countries.

At the opening of the exhibition «Mountain Roads». Maria Pyshinskaya, Head of the Department of Organizational Archives and Formation of the National Archival Fund, spoke at the «Caucasus» exhibition. She described the beginnings of the Arakcheev family collection at the archive-museum, emphasizing the value of the materials being donated and the importance of their preservation. Gennady Sivokhin, Senior Researcher in the Scientific and Exhibition Department of the Zaslavye Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, shared his experience organizing an art exhibition of Boris Arakcheev’s paintings dedicated to Zaslavye.

Tatyana Anpilogova, Lead Archivist in the Department of Information, Publication, and Document Use, introduced the audience to archival documents and biographical materials documenting the artist’s creative journey. The artist’s daughter, Oksana Arakcheeva, presented the figurative part of the exhibition, consisting of sketches created during two of Boris Vladimirovich’s trips for treatment to the House of Artists in Khosta. Bright and vibrant in color, they stand out from the Belarusian landscapes. Mountains and sea, cypresses and magnolias – all this is new, unusual for the artist’s palette.

Guests of the anniversary event were able to see the unique works of Boris Arakcheev, hear the reminiscences of his daughter, and gain a deeper understanding of the work of the master, who made a huge contribution to the development of contemporary fine art in Belarus.
