On the patriotic hour «April 2 – Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus» held by the State Archives of the Gomel Region as part of the national «Archives for School» campaign

On April 2, 2026, the State Archives of the Gomel Region held a patriotic hour dedicated to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia at the Irininskaya Gymnasium.

Maia Valentinovna Vaschenko, senior researcher at the archive, told the students about the history of this commemorative date, which dates back to 1996, when the Treaty on the Establishment of the Community of Belarus and Russia was signed on April 2. The 30th anniversary of the Day of Unity of Russia and Belarus is an important date in the calendars of the two countries. This date symbolizes not only the shared historical destinies and centuries-old friendship of the two fraternal peoples, but also the desire for joint development, strengthening friendship, and cooperation. Russia and Belarus share a common history, culture, language, and traditions. In today’s tense geopolitical environment, it is especially important to recognize the importance of unity between Russia and Belarus. Today’s youth must understand the value of brotherhood and cooperation between fraternal nations. It is up to the younger generation to strengthen ties between our peoples and develop joint initiatives and projects that will contribute to the prosperity of our countries. The event discussed the importance of fostering patriotism as the foundation for the further development of relations between Russia and Belarus. Patriotism is not only love for one’s country, but also respect for other peoples and a willingness to engage in dialogue and cooperation.

Participants watched a video about the friendship and cooperation between Belarus and Russia. The event concluded with a quiz prepared by students on well-known Russian and domestic brands of industrial goods.
