«Archives for School» Campaign at the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region

On January 30, 2026, staff from the State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region held a lesson on «Remembrance of the Holocaust» dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day for students of Gomel Secondary School No.3 named after D.N.Penyazkov.

During the meeting, archivists told the students about the numerous victims of Nazism, the brutal extermination of the Jewish people, and the concentration camps in Belarus. The students were shown lists of liberated prisoners from the German camp «Ozarichi» stored in the archive and original documents containing the memoirs of General P.I.Batov, which describe the liberation of the prisoners of the «Ozarichi» camp.

During the event, a documentary film about the Ozarichi camp was shown to the students, featuring prisoners’ recollections of those horrific days, along with documentary evidence from historians and museum staff.

A pleasant surprise for the students was the donation by Archive Director Irina Vladimirovna Zhineva of a copy of the personal file of school principal Elena Sergeevna Bekarevich, discovered in the state archives, to the school museum.

The event concluded with a tour of the archives.
