A remembrance lesson was held at the Zonal State Archives in Kobrin
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, 8th-grade students from Secondary School No.1 in Kobrin had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the history of that tragic day by attending a lesson in the archives. This was more than just a lesson, but a true journey through time, allowing them to touch upon the tragic pages of the past and understand their significance for the present.
The lesson began with a story about the origins of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The students learned why January 27th was chosen for this day and how it has become a symbol of the fight against intolerance and genocide worldwide.
Particular attention was paid to one of the darkest chapters of history – the Auschwitz concentration camp. The story of the scale of the tragedy, the inhumane conditions, and the millions of lives lost left a lasting impression on the students.
To consolidate their acquired knowledge and test their attentiveness, the students took part in a thematic quiz. Questions on the history of the Holocaust, its causes and consequences, and life in Auschwitz helped the students organize the information and better understand the full depth of the tragedy. The quiz was held in an atmosphere of respect and seriousness, with each question sparking lively discussion and a desire to provide the correct answer.
This lesson in the archives became more than just an educational event for the students; it was an important step toward understanding the value of peace, human dignity, and the inadmissibility of any form of discrimination. Remembrance of the victims of the Holocaust is not only a day of respect for the past but also a call to action in the present to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.
