On the State Archives of the Gomel Region’s Event for Students of Gomel Educational Institutions at the Special Police Detachment
On November 27, 2025, Yuri Shestopalov, Director of the State Archives of the Gomel Region, organized a career guidance tour for senior students from Gomel Secondary School No.75 and the Gomel Cadet School to the Special Police Detachment. Representatives of the Communist Party of Belarus and Gomel archives also participated in the event.
Special Police Detachment (OMON) officers explained to the students that OMON is a special forces unit of the internal affairs agencies of the Republic of Belarus. OMON is part of the public security police and performs special tasks within the purview of the internal affairs agencies. These tasks primarily include ensuring the personal and public safety of citizens, promptly responding to and preventing public disturbances during mass events, detaining individuals offering armed resistance, etc. The students were shown equipment used in everyday service and combat operations. Cadet Lyceum students and high school students enthusiastically examined the combat weapons demonstrated by special forces personnel.
They were also shown a shooting range and a gym, where they can hone their weapons skills and maintain excellent physical fitness.
Specialists answered the students’ questions about how to join the unit.
«First and foremost, we consider young men who have completed their military service. Preference is given to internal troops, special forces, paratroopers, and border guards. The most important factors are health, morale, and physical fitness. And, of course, a willingness to work, sometimes in extreme conditions».
Following the event, the participants were shown a documentary about the work of the special forces unit in Gomel.
