«Archives for School» Campaign at the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region
On October 22, 2025, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign, lessons on «Through the Pages of Archive History» and «Gomel Partisan Region» were held for schoolchildren at the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region.
During the first lesson, students from the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.3 of Gomel named after D.N. Penyazkov» learned about the history of the archive and its main areas of work. During a tour of the archive, the students learned about the composition and quantity of documents stored and the conditions under which they are stored.
As part of the event, the students were introduced to career guidance materials. Students were provided with information about the admission requirements to the History Department of the Belarusian State University, the benefits of studying there, and the employment prospects for graduates. They also emphasized the opportunities and advantages of pursuing a targeted education in the History Department.
During the second lesson, archive staff told the students about the struggle of partisans and underground fighters under the harsh occupation regime.
The students were introduced to documentary materials on the activities of underground groups and partisan brigades stored in the archive: information on the combat strength and personnel of partisan detachments and brigades, the personal files of Heroes of the Soviet Union, and the opportunity to examine original documents containing the memoirs of participants in the battles for the liberation of the Gomel Region from Nazi invaders.
Students were treated to a document exhibition, «And Tomorrow Was Victory…», displayed in the archive’s reading room. A screening of the documentary film, «The History of the Great Victory», prepared for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet people’s victory in the Great Patriotic War by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents, was also held.
