«MolodechNo.Pages of History»: Participation of an employee of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno in a Local History Conference
As part of the local history conference «The Library – a Vault and Provider of Cultural Heritage», organized by the Maxim Bogdanovich Molodechno Central District Library, Maria Mechkovskaya, an archivist at the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno, spoke. Her report focused on the historical milestones in the formation and development of the city, whose fate is closely intertwined with the fate of the entire Belarusian land.
«Molodechno is one of the oldest cities in Belarus, whose history dates back to the 14th century. The first documentary mention of the settlement dates back to 1388: this date is recorded in the oath of Prince Dmitry Olgerdovich, addressed to Grand Duke Jagiello. «Since then, the city has traveled centuries—from a princely fiefdom to a modern cultural center of the Minsk region, preserving a living memory of the past, a spirit of resilience, and a desire for renewal», the archivist noted.
Today, Molodechno is a dynamically developing city, seamlessly combining industrial might and cultural diversity. In her presentation, based on archival documents, Maria Ivanovna demonstrated how mechanical engineering, woodworking, light industry, food processing, furniture, and perfume manufacturing harmoniously coexist within the city’s structure. All of this forms the region’s stable economic and social foundation.
The documentary evidence presented by the archivist convincingly demonstrates that Molodechno is not just a geographical location, but a living space where past and present intertwine in a single rhythm of creation, reflecting the city’s multifaceted history and contemporary dynamism.
