On the visit of the delegation of the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation to the State Archives of the Gomel Region

On October 1, 2025, Yury Shestopalov, Director of the State Archives of the Gomel Region, participated in a joint meeting of the boards of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation. The meeting discussed the storage, acquisition, recording, and use of documents, as well as prospects for cooperation between the agencies.

On October 2, 2025, as part of the meeting, members of the delegation of the Federal Archival Agency of the Russian Federation visited the State Archives of the Gomel Region.

The guests were given a tour of the renovated archival storage building of the State Archives of the Gomel Region, located at 23 Kosareva Street in Gomel. The total area of the reconstructed building exceeds 2,100 square meters. This made it possible to resolve the issue of staffing the regional archive for decades to come. The State Archives of the Gomel Region holds a total of 616,157 items. The archives meet modern standards and technical requirements for the proper storage and use of documents. Particular attention was paid to a modern fire safety system and advanced methods for storing and digitizing valuable documents.

Russian colleagues were presented with a photo-documentary project, «Unconquered Gomel Region», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Gomel’s liberation from Nazi invaders. The project was created using chronologically linked documentary materials from Belarusian archives and museums. It depicts the events in the occupied territory of the Gomel Region from August 20, 1941, to November 26, 1943. Guests were presented with documents on the genocide, including civilian burial sites, a plan of the Dulag-121 transit camp, the Ozarichi concentration camp, and more. An exhibition, «People’s Militia Regiment», was also presented.
