The State Archives of the Vitebsk Region has prepared a virtual exhibition of documents «Natives of Vitebsk awarded the medal «For Victory over Japan», dedicated to the Day of the End of World War II
In honor of the victory over Japan, the defeat and capitulation that ended World War II, the medal «For Victory over Japan» was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 30, 1945.
As a result of the analysis of data on all military personnel, natives of Vitebsk, awarded the medal «For Victory over Japan», a list of 287 individuals was compiled.
In the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, a preliminary identification of documents on all individuals presented in the list was carried out. Information on early (pre-war) biographies was identified: copies of birth certificates, documents on graduation from educational institutions, materials on parents and immediate relatives, photographs, as well as documents from the post-war period.
