On the visit to the memorial complex «For Our Soviet Motherland» in Orsha by an employee of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Mogilev Region»

As part of the events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the head of the department of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Mogilev Region» Tatyana Shevchik visited the memorial complex «For Our Soviet Motherland», located in the city of Orsha on Komsomolskaya Street on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River. During the Great Patriotic War, in order to save the territory of the city of Orsha from the fascist invaders, on July 14, 1941, a platoon under the command of Captain Ivan Andreevich Flerov opened a battery of rocket artillery «Katyusha» (BM-13) near the village of Pishchalovo.

Within a few seconds, shots were aimed at the occupied city railway station in Orsha, and this was enough to destroy a large number of enemy forces and military equipment and prevent the fascists from advancing further on Smolensk.

In memory of this event, the memorial complex «For Our Soviet Motherland» («Katyusha») was created.
