On holding an event for students of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University in the framework of the republican project «Archives for School» at the State Archives of the Gomel Region

On July 1, 2025, a lecture «Archives – Historical Memory» was held at the State Archives of the Gomel Region for 2nd-year students of the Faculty of History of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University.

Senior researcher Maya Valentinovna Vashchenko told the students about the archival fund of filtration cases and trophy documents on former military personnel and repatriated Soviet citizens. The history students were interested in the personal documents of Soviet citizens who were forcibly taken to forced labor in Germany. These are certificates, IDs, pre-war Soviet passports, as well as various documents issued by German authorities during their work in the occupied territories. Maya Valentinovna told future historians about military events in the Gomel region related to the partisan movement. She showed archival documents about the personnel of the Zheleznyak partisan brigade and award sheets of partisans from the Stalin brigade. Students learned with interest about the exploits of partisan Varvara Petrovna Vyrvich – «bandit Katya», for whose capture the fascists gave a valuable reward. Students learned about the feat of twelve-year-old partisan Eva Moskalenko from the award sheet, which is stored in the regional archive.

Students learned interesting information about military operations and the life of partisans from the BGAKFFD documentary «Belarus – a partisan republic» and «In the partisan detachment of Father Minai».

Head of the Department of Records and Preservation of Documents Svetlana Primakova conducted an introductory tour of the archive storage facility, where she told students about the features of storing documents. In the laboratory, archive specialists showed students ways to repair documents.
