Virtual exhibition «Days and Nights of Ivan Navumenko» BGAMLI

February 16, 2025 marks the centenary of the birth of I.Ya.Naumenko, a representative of the «frontline» generation of Belarusian prose writers, an outstanding literary scholar, scientist and teacher, Honored Scientist of the BSSR (1978) and People’s Writer of Belarus (1995).

During the Great Patriotic War, as a seventeen-year-old youth, he joined the anti-fascist underground, fought in a partisan detachment, then at the front, where he was a reconnaissance company sergeant major. In the post-war period, he worked in various printed publications, the Belarusian State University, and the Academy of Sciences. In 1985-1990, he held the post of Chairman of the Supreme Council of the BSSR.

For the writer’s birthday, the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art has prepared a virtual exhibition «Days and Nights of Ivan Navumenko». It presents unique documents from the BSAMLI collections, reflecting his creative and social activities. The published documents, including photographs, drafts of his literary works and scientific articles, letters from readers, allow each visitor to the virtual exhibition to answer the question of what was the secret of the activities of this unusually talented person.
