On holding a round table at the State Archives of the Gomel Region «Education of Patriotism in the Younger Generation through the Prism of the Events of the Great Patriotic War»
On February 6, 2025, a round table dedicated to the Hero of the Soviet Union, military leader and intelligence officer of the Guard, Major General Semyon Davydovich Kremer was held at the State Archives of the Gomel Region. The event was attended by the director of the archive Yuri Shestopalov, deputy director Zoya Aleksandrovich, senior researcher Maya Vashchenko and invited guests – the granddaughter of S.D.Kremer Lyudmila Vasilyeva, history teacher of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75 of Gomel» Anton Ermoolenko, 3rd secretary of the Gomel Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus Dmitry Murashko and archive employees.
On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory and in honor of the 125th anniversary of the birth of Semyon Davydovich Kremer, the participants of the round table discussed the topic of patriotic education of the younger generation using the example of heroes – Gomel residents. The work of the archives, within the framework of the pilot project «Archives – to School», consists of conducting patriotic lessons, practical classes with archival documents and research of historical facts in the «Young Archivist» circle. The result of such archival research was the work of a student of school No.75 of Gomel Vladislav Starovoitov, dedicated to the biography and military activities of S.D.Kremer, which took first place in the regional competition «Young Archivist». Deputy Director of the archive Zoya Aleksandrovich spoke about the archival collection of personal files of veterans of the Great Patriotic War, with which it is planned to work with students within the framework of the «Archives – to School» campaign. Lyudmila Vasilyeva told about unknown interesting facts of her grandfather’s military biography and presented the archive with memorable gifts.
Summing up the results of the round table, the director of the archive, Yuri Shestopalov, noted the need for patriotic education of youth through the prism of the events of the Great Patriotic War, promoting archival documents. In the reading room of the archive, guests were presented with an exhibition of documents from the war years, «Youth spent in slavery. Letters to the Motherland». The archive staff conducted a tour of the archive storage, where guests were able to see how archival documents are stored and repaired.
At the end of the meeting, Lyudmila Vasilyeva thanked the archive workers for the work done to preserve the documents of S.D. Kremer, and an exchange of contacts took place to continue cooperation in preserving the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
