On November 16, 2024, as part of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the city of Gomel from Nazi invaders, a dialogue platform «Time has chosen us!»
Was held in the new building of the archive of the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» in the framework of the celebration of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the city of Gomel from Nazi invaders.. The main topic of the dialogue platform was the study of the history of the liberation of Gomel in archival documents.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Gomel City Council of Deputies Elena Ivanovna Aleksina, Deputy Director of the State Archive of the Gomel Region Andrey Petrovich Mickevich, Deputy Director of the Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory Konstantin Sergeevich Mishchenko and assistant of the Department of History of Belarus of the State State University named after him. Franziska Skaryna Stanislav I. Tykun, as well as the student youth of the city.
Deputy Director A.P.Mickiewicz gave an interview to the correspondent of the newspaper Gomelskie Vedomosti and the First City Television Channel about the importance of working with young people in order to perpetuate the memory of the heroes who liberated Gomel. The deputy director also gave a tour of the archive and talked about the work of the archive, the peculiarities of document preservation and fire safety techniques. The students got acquainted with the project «Homel region unconquered» – photo documents of the archive about the atrocities of the Nazi invaders, placed on stands in the foyer of the archive.
An exhibition of verification and filtration cases of repatriated citizens of Belarus and prisoners of war of the Red Army was also prepared. M.V.Vashchenko, senior researcher at the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents, spoke on the example of documents about the mass forced abduction of civilians from Gomel and the Gomel region to hard labor in Nazi Germany. In addition, documents of the Extraordinary State Commission were presented, which contains information about the material damage caused to the national economy of Gomel and the Gomel region. Special attention was drawn to the documents of the Extraordinary State Commission on the Genocide of the Soviet People.
The students’ questions about the genocide of the Belarusian people were answered comprehensively by experts and specialists of the archive. The expert commission and university students discussed topical issues of attempts to rewrite history, and the importance of preserving historical documents for young people and future generations was emphasized.
