Conducting events by the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» within the framework of the republican campaign «Archives – to School» in the educational institution «Priborsky State College»

On September 11, 2024, the director of the State Archives of the Gomel Region Andrei Nikolaevich Sushchevich, as part of the campaign «Archives – to School», held lessons on historical memory in the educational institution «Priborsky State College» (about 150 students and teachers were present).

As part of the events held in the college, a banner exhibition «Unconquered Gomel Region» was placed, which will be exhibited in the educational institution until the end of this month. Using the materials of the exhibition, the director of the archive conducted the first lesson «Genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War (1941 – 1945)» and showed the documentary film «Liberation» within the framework of the project «Open Film Archive. We brought this day closer as best we could», dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The second lesson was dedicated to the upcoming national holiday, National Unity Day. Andrei Nikolaevich Sushchevich told those gathered in the college assembly hall about a significant date in the history of the state – September 17, 1939, about the historical events that formed the basis of the holiday, and he also noted that the restoration of the unity of the Belarusian people was the most important prerequisite for the further development of the Belarusian society and state.

In addition, the audience was shown the film «Reunification», prepared by the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents» for the events dedicated to National Unity Day, which aroused great interest among college students.

The lessons ended with an open discussion with students on such relevant topics today: what does it mean to be a patriot of your country, what patriotism is and how the current generation understands it, how important it is to love, cherish and protect your homeland. Teachers and students showed keen interest in the events held, asked many questions and expressed interest in further cooperation with the state archive.
