Knowledge Day at BGAMLI: open lessons «We have something to be proud of, we have something to cherish» for students of secondary schools in Minsk
On September 2, 2024, as part of the republican campaign «Archives for School», the head of the department of scientific description of documents of personal origin funds of the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter – BGAMLI) Olga Fedorovna Shatalova held an open lesson at the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 44 named after Yanka Kupala» on the topic: «We have something to be good at. We have something to cherish!»
The attention of 9th grade students was presented with a presentation of the BGAMLI funds (including), documents of Ya. Bryl, V. Korotkevich, Ya. Kolas, M. Tank – writers included in the school curriculum on Belarusian literature. The children asked many questions and showed great interest. We hope that this lesson will help them better understand the importance of archives and their role in preserving history.
On the same day, Vera Valentinovna Birulya, Head of the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents at BGAMLI, conducted a sightseeing tour for students in grades 2–4 of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 188 of Minsk».
During the tour, the children learned how documents are stored and described, became acquainted with the history of BGAMLI and its importance in preserving historical and cultural heritage. They were told about what documents can be found in the archive-museum and what historical events are reflected in them. The schoolchildren got acquainted with the exhibition «Archival Search, Reflection, Discovery…» which is on display in the reading room of the archive-museum. These are collections, books, articles in scientific and periodical press, prepared on the basis of documents stored at BGAMLI. At the end of the tour, the students promised to share their impressions with their friends and parents.
