On the holding of a historical memory lesson by the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» as part of the «Archives to School» campaign for schoolchildren of the Novobelitsky district of Gomel in the «Mir» cinema

On July 2, 2024, on the eve of the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus, the director of the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive) Andrei Nikolaevich Sushchevich, as part of the «Archives to School» campaign, conducted a lesson in historical memory for schoolchildren of the Novobelitsky district of Gomel at the «Mir» cinema «(97 schoolchildren).

In his report, the director of GAGom raised extremely relevant topics today: what it means to be a patriot of one’s country, what patriotism is and how the current generation understands it, how important it is to love, cherish and defend one’s Motherland.

The institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» presented a documentary exhibition «The Unconquered Gomel Region» within the walls of the cinema. Using the materials of the exhibition, the director of the State Archive, as part of the republican action «Archives to School,» conducted a lesson «Liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.» Thanks to this, 97 schoolchildren from the Novobelitsky district of Gomel received a unique opportunity to study in detail the archival documents and photographs presented at the exhibition, reflecting the events of those already distant days in the history of our region.

The exhibition project «The Unconquered Gomel Region» is a significant contribution to the great work carried out by archival institutions to preserve the historical memory of the events and participants of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) and takes on special significance on the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazis invaders.

In addition, the documentary film «Liberation» was shown to the children as part of the «Open Film Archive» project. We brought this day closer as best we could,» dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders. Speaking to schoolchildren, GAG director Andrei Nikolaevich Suschevich spoke about the project «Open Film Archive. We brought this day closer as best we could,» which was prepared by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents, where the story about the liberation of the cities of Belarus is told in chronological order.
