BGAMLI virtual exhibition «Everyday life of partisans and underground fighters of Bobruisk region»

The Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) prepared a virtual exhibition «Everyday Life of Partisans and Underground Workers of the Bobruisk Region» as part of the «Cities of Belarus» project for the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

It is connected with the military activities of the famous Belarusian party and statesman Viktor Ilyich Liventsev. From the first days of the war, he participated in defensive battles on the territory of modern Grodno and Brest regions, then, finding himself surrounded, he created an underground group in occupied Bobruisk, and later a large partisan detachment, becoming its commander. In 1943, by order of the Central Headquarters of the Partisan Movement, Liventsev’s detachment was transformed into the 1st Bobruisk Partisan Brigade, operating in the territory of modern Mogilev and Gomel regions of Belarus.

The exhibition introduces the combat activities of the 1st Bobruisk Partisan Brigade. Under the command of 25-year-old Colonel Viktor Ilyich Liventsev, it operated in the Bobruisk and Osipovitsky districts of the Mogilev region and the Parichi district of the Polesie region. The partisans took part in the «rail war» near Bobruisk. Photographs, drawings and diagrams are taken from the BGAMLI funds. Portraits of the partisans of the brigade are presented, their military exploits are reflected. Of particular interest are the drawings from the life of the partisans of the Bobruisk partisan brigade, the author of which is the partisan artist Leonid Boyko. The diagrams show the scale of the brigade’s combat operations.
