The leadership of the Zonal State Archive in Molodechno took part in the regional requiem meeting dedicated to the International Day of the Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. The «Memory is Preserved by the Living» ceremony took place at the Stalag-342 memorial complex. The event was attended by the city community, district leadership, and former prisoners, into whose hearts the echoes of their childhood experiences shoot with pain.
Those present laid wreaths and flowers at the foot of the monument. The memory of the victims was honored with a minute of silence.
The «death camp» in Molodechno (one of the largest in Belarus) appeared in July 1941. More than 80,000 prisoners passed through it, 33,000 were destroyed. The genocide factory existed until July 1944, when the prisoners were again able to breathe the air of freedom.
The funds of the Zonal State Archives in Molodechno preserve the chronicle of those times. In the Collection of documents about the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. The memoirs of those who became not only victims of forced labor at the behest of the Nazis, but also witnesses of genocide by the German punitive forces, were inscribed with their own hands. In Stalag-342, 33,150 Soviet prisoners of war from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan ended their life… The restoration of the names of the dead does not stop.
The archive, based on available documents, has prepared a thematic virtual exhibition. You can get acquainted with it by following the link.
