Presentation of a collection of documents «Restoration of Agriculture in Belarus: 1946-1950»
On November 10, 2023, a presentation of the collection of documents «Restoration of Agriculture in Belarus: 1946-1950» took place at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (NARB).
The documentary publication was prepared as part of a joint project of Belarusian and Russian archivists dedicated to the post-war development of the national economy of Belarus. The collection is a logical continuation of the first book on the restoration of agriculture in Belarus in 1943-1945, published in 2018.
The presentation was attended by: Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus O.L.Voinov; Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Media L.S.Ananich; Dean of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State University (BSU), Doctor of History, Professor A.G.Kokhanovsky; Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor V.L.Lakiza; Head of the Center for Economic History of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.V.Kondrashin; heads of republican archival institutions; representatives of the Academy of Management under the President of the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian State Pedagogical University named after Maxim Tank, Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University, Minsk State Linguistic University; representatives of leading media of the Republic of Belarus.
As part of the implementation of the «Archives for School» and «Young Archivist» campaigns, the presentation was attended by students of the BSPU, as well as students of gymnasium No. 21 and secondary school No. 62 in Minsk.
Before the start of the event, a musical composition performed by a folk ensemble of Belarusian music and the song «Yarytsa» was presented to the presentation participants, and a newsreel about the restoration of agriculture from the funds of the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents was shown. The guests were also presented with: a banner exhibition «Let’s Restore Belarus Together!», an exhibition of documents from the collections of Belarusian and Russian archives, as well as a thematic exhibition of agricultural products and equipment.
In his welcoming speech to the participants of the presentation, O.L.Voinov noted the importance of studying topics related to the restoration of the national economy of the BSSR in the first post-war years. He emphasized the systematic and comprehensive work of Belarusian and Russian archivists in this direction.
Deputy Chairman of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Media L.S.Ananich noted the symbolism of the publication of the collection in the Year of Peace and Creation and thanked archivists and scientists for their great work in popularizing our documentary historical heritage, especially in the conditions of hybrid and information wars .
Dean of the Faculty of History of BSU A.G. Kokhanovsky noted the close interaction of NARB with the faculty on various aspects of scientific and educational work, and also expressed confidence that young graduates of the Faculty of History will take their rightful place in the cohort of archival industry workers.
Director of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus V.L.Lakiza also pointed out the close and productive interaction between scientists and archivists. He noted the importance of published collections of documents in terms of their novelty and informativeness.
Head of the Center for Economic History of the Institute of Russian History of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.V. Kondrashin spoke about a joint project of Belarusian and Russian archivists to prepare a series of documentary collections dedicated to the restoration of the national economy of the BSSR in 1943-1950.
Leading researcher of the publications department of NARB V.D.Selemenev (head of the team of authors) presented a collection of documents and spoke about the work on its preparation by the publications department.
The reviewer of the collection of documents, head of the Department of Source Studies of BSU, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor S.N.Khodin noted the high scientific level of the publication, its high-quality archaeographic preparation, as well as the rich species diversity of the published documents.
