Documentary chronicle: «On the project of the monument to V.I. Lenin on the square near the House of Soviets»
Under the heading «Documentary Chronicle» and on the eve of the celebration of the Day of the October Revolution, the institution «State Archives of the Mogilev Region» presents for review a copy of the decision of the Mogilev City Executive Committee dated June 8, 1956 No. 367 «On the project of the monument to V.I.Lenin on the square near the House of Soviets».
Before the October Revolution, the territory of the present Lenin Square was on the outskirts of the city, where the hay market was located. In 1938, after the decision was made to move the capital of the BSSR from Minsk to Mogilev, construction of the future Government House began here. However, a year later, the need for this decision disappeared, and the regional leadership was located in the building under construction. In 1957, with the installation of the monument to V.I. Lenin completed the design of the architectural ensemble of the central square.
