On September 15, 2023, on the eve of National Unity Day, the director of the institution State Archive of the Gomel Region Sushchevich A.N., as part of the “Archives to School” event, conducted a lesson in historical memory before premiere screening of the film “On the Other Shore” at the “Mir” cinema.

The first visitors to the film studio “Belarusfilm” “On the Other Shore”, timed to coincide with the national holiday Day of National Unity, were high school students of the State Educational Institution “Secondary School No. 73 of Gomel”, the State Institution “Secondary School No. 1 of Gomel” and the State Institution “Secondary School No. 15 in Gomel.” On the day of the premiere, 196 schoolchildren gathered in the auditorium of the Mir cinema to watch the film.

Before watching the historical film, director of the regional archive A.N. Suschevich. told schoolchildren about the events that took place from 1918 to 1939 in Western Belarus, about the times of the partisan war and the attempts of Belarusians to defend their culture, about reunification with Western Belarus, thereby expanding the children’s understanding of that time.

The story was accompanied by a demonstration of the presentation “The Origins of the National Unity Day Holiday.”

In addition, in his report Sushchevich A.N. raised extremely relevant topics today: what it means to be a patriot of one’s country, what patriotism is and how the current generation understands it, how important it is to love, cherish and defend one’s Motherland.

At the end of the event, the students watched a film.
