On the participation of employees of the institution “Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents” in the round table “Minsk as a public art platform and object for creativity”
The round table“Minsk as a public art platform and object for creativity”at the National Center for Contemporary Art (NCCA) of the Republic of Belarus became the center for discussing the prospects and directions for the development of national art and culture. The event participants were united by one main idea: the past and present of the capital of Belarus, Minsk through the eyes of various authors and creators, Minsk residents of different generations. The institution“Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Audio Documents”(hereinafter referred to as BGAKFFD) was represented at the round table by its employees – leading archivist of the department for the use of documents and information D.V. Trofimychev and leading archivist of the automation and information technology department A.A. Chernetsova. The topic of their presentation is “Restoration of post-war Minsk in audiovisual documents from the funds of the BGAKFFD”.
BGAKFFD employees briefly told those present about the archive, its history and the wealth of funds. Particular attention was paid to the wide possibilities of using archival materials, including for creating new works of art.
A large layer of memory and time, carefully preserved in BGAKFFD, remains the memory of the most terrible page of the city’s past – the Great Patriotic War and the difficult years of transformation of the capital after the occupation. The archivists presented to the participants of the round table a video prepared by the leading archivist of the automation and information technology department A.A. Chernetsova and the head of the department of state accounting and scientific reference apparatus M.D. Romanova. This film was created on the basis of thematic plots of 12 units of recording newsreel material: films, newsreels, newsreels from 1944 to 1957.
Also, visitors to the round table were presented with a selection of photographs from different years, eloquently telling about the labor feat of Minsk residents, with whose hands the city was restored from ashes and ruins. The authors of the report explained in detail to the audience the details of the photographs shown, explained the choice of texture by the masters of the photographic lens, talked about the clothes and instruments captured on film, which can no longer be seen in our time, explained the color of the composition of certain blacks, hidden from the view of a modern person, but assumed by photographers of the past -white images.
