Defense of the Brest Fortress: display in art

On June 22, a memorable date is celebrated in the Republic of Belarus – the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people. At dawn on June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany began a war against the USSR. One of the first and most dramatic episodes of the initial period of the Great Patriotic War was the defense of the Brest Fortress.

The Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art contains sketches for the paintings “Defenders of the Brest Fortress” and “Women of the Brest Fortress” by the famous Belarusian painter, People’s Artist of Belarus Ivan Akhremchik.
