On holding events dedicated to the International Day of Archives
On June 9, 2023, solemn events dedicated to the International Day of Archives were held at the National Historical Archives of Belarus.
As part of their first part, a meeting of the labor collectives of the NIA of Belarus and the Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archiving was held, which was attended by the Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Voinov.
The Director of the Department congratulated the archivists on their professional holiday and presented the Department’s Acknowledgments to the Deputy Directors of the NIA of Belarus Irina Kovganova and Maxim Makarov.
As part of the second part of the celebrations, Deputy Director of the NIA of Belarus, Candidate of Historical Sciences Maksim Makarov delivered a lecture on the history of creation and activity in the second half of the 19th – early 20th centuries to the archive staff. one of the predecessors of the NIA of Belarus, the first historical archive on the territory of our country – the Vitebsk central archive of ancient act books of the provinces of Vitebsk and Mogilev.
Dmitry Matveychik, head of the department of research and publication activities of the NIA of Belarus, prepared for the event an exhibition of documents on the history of the Vitebsk Central Archive, which was shown during the lecture and after its completion and aroused considerable interest among those present.
