Action «Archives for School» in the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art
On June 1, on International Children’s Day, as part of the republican action “Archives for School”, employees of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art conducted a tour of the archive building for students in grades 3-5. The visitors learned about the history of the former church of St. Joseph, where today the archive-museum is located. The children saw and touched the stucco capitals, which are over 300 years old; passed under the very roof of the ancient building to the former altar part; measured in steps the depth and height of the building; learned about the remains of spiral staircases leading to the choirs and vaults; compared the current appearance of the building with archival photographs of different periods. The storehouses of the archive-museum impressed the schoolchildren with the number of shelves with documents that store the history of literature and art. During the tour, the children expressed their desire to work in the archives and study the history of their people from documents.
