VIRTUAL EXHIBITION: «Dedicated to the frontline nurse…»

On the eve of Victory Day and the International Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region» presents a virtual exhibition of archival documents and photographs «Dedicated to a front-line nurse …», dedicated to a front-line nurse, holder of the Florence Nightingale Medal – Sofya Vasilyevna Golukhova.

On the eve of these significant dates, the archivists of the State Archives want to present to the readers a new archival find.

In the course of researching documents from the archival fund of the Buda-Koshelevsky District Committee of the CPB, the archivists revealed the personal file of Sofya Vasilievna Golukhova, who in June 1941 was drafted into the Red Army, and in October 1942, in a fierce battle near Kalinin, she brought to more than 40 wounded, losing his left arm and wounding both legs.

Sofya Vasilievna Golukhova was awarded the Orders of the Patriotic War I and II degrees, medals, and in 1975 for the heroism shown in rescuing the wounded during the Great Patriotic War, she was awarded the Florence Nightingale Gold Medal by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

For exploits during the Great Patriotic War, six nurses from Belarus were awarded this highest award for nurses who distinguished themselves in caring for the sick and wounded, Golukhova Sofya Vasilievna is one of them.

In 2021, a memorial plaque to the sister of mercy Sofya Golukhova was installed in Gomel on Zhukov Street. Gomel City Polyclinic No. 5 was named after Sister of Mercy Sophia Golukhova.
