Labour Day

On April 28, 2023, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus opened a photo-documentary exhibition «Peace, Labor, May!», prepared by the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus and timed to the Labor Day.

On May 1, Belarus celebrates Labor Day, which is a republican public holiday established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus No. 157 dated March 26, 1998 and has a more than century-old history. On this day in 1886, Chicago workers organized a strike and demonstration demanding an 8-hour workday, which ended in a bloody clash with the police and mass casualties among the demonstrators. Three years later, the Paris Congress of the II International called May 1 the Day of Solidarity of Workers of the World and proposed to mark it annually with demonstrations with social demands.

The funds of the National Archive contain reports on the work of the campaigning and propaganda department on the celebration of May 1, minutes of the board meetings of the campaigning and propaganda department of the Chervensky Committee of the CP(b)B on May 1, a report on the celebration of May 1, 1922 in Igumen. Special interest is also caused by the program of lectures for schools of political literacy and the preparation plan for the celebration of the International Day of May 1 in the BSSR in 1924.

Head of the Department of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus M.A.Starostenko introduced the exhibition of employees of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.
