The 18th session of the Consultative Council of the Heads of State Archival Services of the CIS Member States
On 14 July 2022, the 18th session of the Consultative Council of the Heads of State Archives Services of the CIS Member States was held in Almaty (Republic of Kazakhstan). The session was attended by heads and employees of the state archival services of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and a representative of the CIS Executive Committee.
The Archival Service of Belarus was represented by the delegation consisting of the First Deputy Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus O. A. Ledovskaya (head), Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus A. K. Demyanyuk, Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus O. L. Voinov and Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies A. E. Rybakov. The Belarusian delegation took part in the work of the Consultative Council via videoconference.
The session reviewed the results of work of the CIS archival services in the first half of 2022, analyzed the experience of restoring archival documents and measures to combat bio-damage of archival documents, and discussed other urgent issues of cooperation in the field of archival science.
The head of the Belarusian delegation, O. A. Ledovskaya, noted in her speech that 2022 was declared the Year of Historical Memory in Belarus, which imposes a special responsibility on archivists and requires more active work to shape an objective historical outlook in the society and to counteract attempts to falsify and distort the national history. She informed the session participants on the key performance indicators of the archival industry of the country and the most significant projects implemented by the Belarusian archivists in January-June 2022. New forms of using documentary materials aroused genuine interest of foreign colleagues, in particular the national campaign “Archives for School”.
During the session, the chairman of the Consultative Council was elected for the next period. U. M. Yusupov, Director of the UZARHIV Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, was unanimously elected to this post.
