The Minister of Justice visits the State Archives of Brest Region

On February 17, 2022, during his working trip to Brest Region, Minister of Justice Sergey Khomenko got acquainted with the work of the State Archives of Brest Region, visiting one of the archive buildings at 8 Engelsa Street. The building was overhauled and modernized in 2012-2017 at the expense of the regional budget.

Sergey Khomenko visited the archival repositories, scientific reference library, reading room, laboratory for repair and restoration of archival documents, working rooms, as a result of which he could assess the storage conditions of archival documents and working conditions of the employees; he also inspected the archive life support systems: ventilation and air conditioning systems to maintain optimal temperature and humidity conditions in the archives, gas fire suppression, security and fire alarm systems, etc.

The staff of the reading room answered the Minister’s questions about the work of the reading room, user community, accessibility of archival information to citizens.

During the visit, Sergey Khomenko drew attention to the importance of the role of archives, the need for their active participation in the events of the Year of Historical Memory.
