The State Archives of Brest Region hosts an exhibition “History of the Archives in Photographs” to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Archives.

The exposition shows photographs of the Archive’s buildings, repositories and the archive staff in various years as well as pictures depicting the most important events in the history of the Archive.

On 11 February 2020 the Brest Region Executive Committee Main Justice Administration hosted a solemn meeting dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the archive service and state archives in Brest Region.

This memorable date is linked with the Resolution of the Council of People’s Deputies of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic “On the establishment of archive business in Baranovichi, Pinsk, Vileika, Brest and Belostok regions of the BSSR”, adopted on 11 February 1940.

The archivists of Brest Region were welcomed by Deputy Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry A. Tsvetkov and Chief of the Main Justice Administration S. Kalinovsky.
The Division Head for Notaries, Registry Offices and Archival Institutions N. Kralko delivered a report on the topic “The development of archive business in Brest Region in 2015-2019”.

The Dean of the History Faculty of the Brest Pushkin State University E. Burik in her greeting speech to the archivists of Brest Region noted that the History Faculty has for many years successfully cooperated in different areas with the State Archives of Brest Region.

The directors of the state archives demonstrated video presentation about their institutions and achievements.

L. G. Romanovich, Veteran of the State Archives of Brest Region, narrated about her life in archive profession for 52 years, sharing her own poetry with the audience.

Eighteen heads and staff members of various state archives in Brest Region received awards and decorations in recognition of their long term good work, high professionalism and great contribution to the development of archive business in Brest Region (honored diplomas by the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, the Diploma of the Brest Region Deputies Council, honored diplomas and commendation letters of the Brest Region Executive Committee Main Justice Administration).

The Local State Archives in Baranovichi has opened an exhibition “History of the Archives in Persons” on the 80th anniversary of the foundation of the Archives.

Representatives of state archives in Gomel Region took part in the presentation of the book “The Museum Stories. Personalities, Collections, Rarities”, which took place at the White Room of the Rumyantsev-Paskevich Palace in Gomel on 21 January 2020.

The ceremonial event was attended by head officials and staff of the state historical-cultural institution “The Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble”, former employees of the museum, authors-compilers of the book, sponsors of the project Belneftestrakh Insurance Company, representatives of local authorities, scholarly and cultural community, and the mass media in Gomel region.

The exemplars of the book with autographs of authors-compilers will be preserved at the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region and the State Archives of Gomel Region and are available to customers at the reading rooms.

The Director of the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region also presented the Museum with the book “A Chronicle of the Century. The Bodies of Justice in the Republic of Belarus” timed to the 100th anniversary of the justice bodies in Belarus, as well as a number of other editions prepared by the Archives.

The Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus held an extended board meeting to review the results of work of archives and records agencies and state archival institutions in the Republic of Belarus in 2019 and to set up the objectives for 2020.

The board meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Justice Nikolay Starovoitov, heads and deputy heads of main justice boards at the regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee, directors of the state archives and members of the Department for Archives and Records Management.

Viktor Kurash, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management delivered a report. Directors of the state archives and representatives of the Main Justice Administration participated in the debates.

The board noted that the Republic of Belarus currently pursues a policy of electronic recordkeeping as one of the areas of digital transformation. The preservation of electronic records in Belarus corresponds to world trends. The Information System for Archives of Electronic Records of the National Archival Fonds was put into commercial operation in 2019. The System is located in a secure virtual infrastructure on the republic-level platform based on cloud technologies.

As on January 1, 2020 the state archives in Belarus permanently hold 13 015 991 paper-based storage items, comprising 47 641 fonds.

In 2019, the archives digitized 4 153 file inventories, which makes up 33% of the total amount of inventories.

The information support of users remains an important sphere of archive activity. In 2019 the state archives performed 12 511 biographical inquiries, 2 209 thematic inquiries, 275 genealogical inquiries and 21 356 social-legal inquiries.

In 2019 the state archives prepared and released seven collections of published documents, two analytical works, 123 exhibitions of documents.

The State Heraldry Register of the Republic of Belarus was added with 124 official heraldic symbols.

WWII veteran Vasily Deikun, resident of Korovatichi in Rechitsa district, Gomel region, whose personal papers are held at the Local State Archives in Rechitsa, celebrated his 100 years on 20 January 2020.

In the Second World War Vasily Deikun fought as a tanker in the battles from Belarus to Czechoslovakia. He was twice wounded. He was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 2nd Class, medals “For Distinction in Combat”, “For Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”, “For the Liberation of Prague” etc., and he was awarded the Commendation of Supreme Commander-in-Chief Joseph Stalin. After the war he served in Ukraine, then returned to Korovatichi and worked in the collective farm and in forestry.

Last year Vasily Deikun donated his personal papers to the Local State Archives in Rechitsa, among which are military and labour documents, award certificates and photographs that bear invaluable testimony of his outstanding life.

On the jubilee day the Archive’s director Natalya Pishchik and staff members Irina Komar and Sergey Zharnosenko visited the war veteran in his home in Korovatichi. They congratulated Vasily Deikun with his 100th anniversary, wished him good health, happiness and love, and presented him with gifts.

A new Unified System of Administrative Documentation USORD (unified forms of records, guidance material on the use of unified forms classifier) has been approved and released by order of Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus No. 41 of 28 November 2019.

The USORD System is an efficiently organized complex of interrelated unified forms of records recommended for use in all institutions irrespective of their form of ownership, organizational and legal form.

The unified forms included in the USORD System give an exemplary text structure and a minimally required set of attributes for respective administrative and regulatory documents. The USORD System supports operational solution of managerial tasks, reduces time and material costs for handling documents, assists in increasing the quality of documents and reduces the volume of workflow.

The Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings (BGAKFFD) and internet-portal TUT.by present the next issue of joint project “These are We”, dedicated to famous Belarusian female writer Olga IPATOVA “An interesting writer. She was brought up in children’s home, was an assistant to Vladimir Neklyaev, now lives in Canada”.

The video material is prepared by Elena Poleshchuk, leading archivist at the BGAKFFD’s division of information and use of records.
