The State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region presents a documentary exhibition on 65 Years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibition features photographs and documents from the Great Patriotic War: about the creation of underground party centres in the Gomel region, a letter to Joseph Stalin on the occassion of the liberation of Gomel from the Nazi occupiers, data on the number of people forcibly deported by the Nazis during the occupation of the Gomel region, about the liberation of the Soviet people from the concentration camp at Ozarichi and more.

Also on display are documents from the collection of personal papers of V.D. Vetoshkin and G.K. Denisenko, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, Heroes of the Soviet Union.

The Eleventh General Conference of the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA) and the session of the Consultative Council of the heads of the CIS archival services took place in Odessa, Ukraine, on 21-23 May 2010.

In the events participated delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine and Latvia took part as an observer.

The Belarusian side was represented by the director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus V.I. Adamushko, director of the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings V.V. Balandin, the chief of archives and RM division at the Gomel Regional Executive Committee P.M. Lapitsky, director at the Belarusian Research Centre for Electronic Records V.L. Nosevich, director at the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies A.E. Rybakov, and director at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus V.D. Selemenev.

At the session of the Consultative Council of the heads of the CIS archival services the representatives of all member countries made reports on the development of archive business in the past year. They made a decision to prepare the Regulations of the Consultative Council in accordance with the recently adopted Regulation on the governing bodies of the CIS.

The EURASICA Eleventh General Conference discussed the implementation of work of the regional branch in 2008-1012 and perspectives for 2011-2012. The Russian side informed the participants of a successful holding in Moscow of training workshops organised by the Russian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (VNIIDAD). The VNIIDAD’ director M.V. Larin noted that the Belarusian archivists were among the most active participants at the workshops. The Conference also discussed the state of work on the database "Archival Legislation in the Countries of the Euro-Asian Region" and prospects of its location in the Web. The head of the Uzbek delegation, A.H. Abdullayev, made a proposal to organise a web forum on the issues of international archival cooperation and expressed readiness to prepare the required technical proposals.

The EURASICA next, Twelfth General Conference is expected to take part in 2011 in Belarus. This will include an international conference on the issues of cooperation between the state archival services and the non-government archives.

The EURASICA Eleventh Conference included two international scholarly conferences: "Common Archival Heritage and National Archival Holdings" and "Electronic Recordkeeping and Electronic Archives". The latter was headed by V.I. Adamushko, director at the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus. The main report was delivered by V.L. Nosevich, director at the Belarusian Research Centre for Electronic Records.

A joint board of the Federal Archival Agency of Russia (Rosarkhiv) and the Department for Archives and Records Management under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus (Department) held a session in Smolensk, Russia, on 26 May 2010.

From the Russian side the board was represented by the deputy ñhief of the Rosarkhiv V.P. Tarasov, dåðuty chief of the Administration for Archival Services at the Rosarkhiv T.G. Zanina, chief of the Main Archival Administration for Moscow Region P.M. Petrov, director of the State Archives of the Russian Federation S.V. Mironenko, director of the Russian State Archives of the Economy E.A. Tyurina, and deputy director at the All-Russian Research Institute of Documents and Archival Studies N.I. Khimina.

The Belarusian side was represented by the director of the Department V.I. Adamushko, first deputy director of the Department O.V. Biryukova, the chief of the scholarly use of documents and information division at the Department V.P. Kryuk, director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus V.D. Selemenev, director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies A.E. Rybakov, director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus A.K. Golubovich, and deputy chief at the Main Administration for Justice–chief at the archives and RM division at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee S.V. Rublevsky.

Deputy Governor of Smolensk Region, S. P. Krivko, took part in the board session and made a welcoming speech to the participants.

The board session discussed the issue "On the practices of the federal archives of the Russian Federation and the state archives of the Republic of Belarus in the information provision of government agencies in 2007-2009".

The participants also discussed the Plan of Joint Actions of the Rosarkhiv and the Department in 2008-1010 and other issues of bilateral cooperation between the Belarusian and Russian archivists, and the draft plan of joint actions for the years 2011-2013.

The State Archives of Brest Region presents an exhibition of documents on 65th Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The exhibition offers over fourty documents and photographs available from the holdings of the Brest Regional Committee of the Belarusian Communist Party, the Brest regional, district and town executive committees, the Extraordinary State Commission for Investigation of Nazi Crimes and Damage, etc.

The exposition documents narrate about the liberation of the Brest region from the Nazi occupiers, the postwar reconstruction and rebuilding, the burials of soldiers and partisans killed in the war, the commemoration of war victims, the Nazi crimes against the civilians and the damage inflicted on Belarus, the deportation to forced labour in Germany and return home, and more.

22 April 2010, the Regional Museum of Military Glory in Gomel transferred the records of the Gomel Region Military Recruitment Office from 1944-1945 to the State Archives of Gomel Region.

The documents include orders issued by the regional military recruitment office and the transit centre in Gomel, lists of persons subject to the draft, lists of personnel at the Gomel transit centre, among others.

An exhibition of historical documents, "Soviet Society and War 1941-1945" was opened on April 9, 2010 in Moscow. The organizers are the Federal Archival Agency of Russia, the Russian State Archives of the Economy, the Russian State Archives of Documentary Films and Photographs, the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, and the Belarusian State Archive of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings. The following institutions took part in the preparation of the exhibition: the Russian State Archives of Socio-Political History, the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archives of Literature and Art, the Archives of the President of the Russian Federation, the Central Archives of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Historical Museum, the Polytechnic Museum, the Holocaust Educational Centre, the Central Archives of Electronic and Audiovisual Documents in Moscow.

On 15 March 2010, the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region held a ceremonial meeting celebrating 70 years since its foundation.

The Regional Party Archive (now the State Archives of Public Organizations of Gomel Region) was founded on 15 March 1940 at the Gomel Regional Committee of the Communist Party (Bolsheviks) of Belarus to accumulate records of the Communist Party and Komsomol organs.

To celebrate this event, the Gomel archivists prepared a series of radio and television programmes, published articles in the Belarusian archival journal, Archives and Records Management and the regional newspaper, and hosted an exhibition of documents and photographs titled "Milestones of History in Documents and Persons".

Among other events to mark this date, the Archive accessioned the personal collection of Vasily Denisovich Karpov, who directed the Archive from 1969 to 1983.

In addition, a special Archive Booklet was released, which highlights in chronological order the main stages in the development of this institution, one of the biggest archival repositories in the Republic of Belarus, with the most interesting documents relating to the Archive’s history, autobiographical data about its directors, and many photographs.

The Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (BelNIIDAD) has released two new publications.

A Bibliographical Directory, Archival Editing in the Republic of Belarus, 1991-2008 is a systematized list of historical publications and documentary editions issued in Belarus in 1991-2008.

The Procedural Guidelines for Creating File Folders cover issues of organizing file folders from their creation until transfer to the archives. The Guidelines are illustrated with many examples and appendices.

The Gomel archivists released a new guide to holdings in the State Archives of Gomel Region.

The guide called "The State Archives of Gomel Region" describes the contents of this Archive and provides descriptions for 2,243 fonds (record groups) systematised by branch of industry into 25 sections. Within each industry the records creating institutions are arranged by type of agency and then geographical location.

The edition is intended for archivists, scholars, graduate and postgraduate students, regional specialists, and researchers into the history of Belarus.

The new building opened for the Local State Archives in Molodechno on 12 February 2010.

Participants at the opening ceremony were Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management V. I. Adamushko, Head of Justice Administration at the Minsk Region Executive Committee A. A. Bachilo, Administrative Director at the Minsk Region Executive Committee I. S. Markevich, Chairman of the Molodechno District Executive Committee G. M. Kuchko, among others.

The Minsk Region Executive Committee helped solve the problem of finding a new site for the Archive, allocating 2.2 billion roubles from the Region’s budget.

The new building meets all requirements and provides optimal conditions for documents preservation as well as for work of archivists and researchers.

This year, the Molodechno Archive celebrates 70 years since its foundation on 11 February 1940, when the Council of People’s Commissars of the BSSR issued Resolution No 182 to establish the State Archive of Vileika Region. Since 1944, after the Vileika Region was renamed as Molodechno Region, the Archive has been located in the town of Molodechno.

Before moving into the new building, the archives were located in the building of the former prison constructed in 1935. The Archive holds records of various institutions that operated in Western Belarus when it was part of the Polish Republic (1919-1939) and records of the Soviet period for the former Molodechno Region and the districts of Vileika, Volozhin, Molodechno and Miadel in Minsk Region. As of 1 January 2010, the Archive holds 1,726 fonds totaling 256,570 items.
