The Local State Archives in Pinsk holds an exhibition dedicated to the 920th anniversary of the town of Pinsk, Brest Region. The exhibition runs from 27 September to 6 October 2017.

The Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Records (BGAKFFD) together with the Yanka Kupala Central Library have prepared and opened a photo exhibition of documents to mark the 950th anniversary of Minsk City “Minsk. The early 1950s. Author of photographs Yafim Liushyts”.

The welcome word was given by Director of the Yanka Kupala Central Library Ms. Elena Kubyshkina and BGAKFFD Director Mr. Viktor Balandin.

The archive staff have prepared a stand presenting documents and exhibits from the 1950s. The event included the demonstration of two documentary films from 1951 and 1954. The guests and organizers could listen to “Songs about Minsk” performed by A. Podgaisky accompanied by the Variety Orchestra of the Belarusian Radio and Television directed by B. Raisky, etc.

At the beginning of a new school year the State Archives of Minsk Region held an excursion for students of the law class at Higher School No 67 in Minsk. The law class is under the supervision of the Interior Administration of Moskovsky District in Minsk.

Ms. Lyubov Trepashko, Chief Inspector for Agitation and Propaganda at Moskovsky District Interior Administration visited the event.

During the excursion the law students learned about the history of the archive business in the country, the history and activities of the State Archives of Minsk Region, visited the archive depositories and the reading room.

The students were shown the original documents relating to the activity of the Belarusian militia and police, including the instruction by the People’s Commissariat of Interior and the People’s Commissariat of Justice dated 20 October 1918 “On organization of the Soviet Workers and Peasants Militia”, the circular on renaming the militia as the workers and peasants guard of the Lithuanian-Belarusian SSR in 1919, the order by the Revolutionary Military Council of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Belarus on admission of the Red Army soldiers to the militia etc. The students could also see a criminal file for horse theft in 1924, a warrant of search and seizure in the 1928 case etc.

In addition, the students became acquainted with restoration and binding works and the unique working of the disinfection chamber at the Central Laboratory for Microfilming and Restoration of Records of the National Archival Holdings of the RB.

On 30 August 2017 the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus has presented the book of documents and materials, Belarusian Headquarters of Partisan Movement in Belarus September-December 1942.

The welcome word was given by Viktor Kurash, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus.

The speakers at the presentation were First Deputy Minister for Information I.V. Lutsky; Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus A.K. Demyanyuk; Academician-Secretary at the Department of Humanities at the National Academy of Sciences A.A. Kovalenya; Director of the History Institute at the National Academy of Sciences V.V. Danilovich; Head of the Military History and Intergovernment Relations at the History Institute A.M. Litvin; Chief Archivist at the National Archives V.D. Selemenev etc.

Among the participants at the event were Hero of Socialist Labour, veteran of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 A.I. Sloboda and Chairman of the Minsk City Organization of the Belarusian Public Association of War Veterans, retired Major General A.A. Adonyev.

On 29 August 2017 the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus held a meeting with the representatives of KINY & PARTNERS company (Seoul, Republic of Korea). The Korean delegation pays a visit to the Republic of Belarus as part of the Belarusian-Korean cooperation in the field of information technologies.

During the meeting the Korean side was informed on the state of digitization of archival records at the state archives and the creation of electronic archives in Belarus. The parties also discussed the perspectives of potential cooperation with Korean specialists in the promotion of information technologies in archive business.

In August 2017 the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings (BGAKFFD) received a delegation of archivists from the Republic of Kazakhstan. The delegation included Ms. G.M. Karataeva, chief of academic information and finding aids at the Central State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ms. A.N. Tutkysheva, chief of National Archival Fonds preservation at the State Archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

During the visit the both sides exchanged their photograph albums. The Kazakh side presented a photo album dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War “The Kazakhs at the fronts of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945”, BGAKKFD – a photo album marking the 30th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant “Gomel Region. The life after the Chernobyl catastrophe”.

The guests got acquainted with photo and film records on the topic “The participation of Kazakhs in combat actions of the Red Army and partisan units in the Great Patriotic War”.

As a result of the visit, a collection of documents is scheduled for publication in 2018 in the Republic of Kazakhstan untitled “Kazakhs at the fronts of Great Patriotic War” with the use of documents from the Belarusian Film and Photo Archives and the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

In July 2017 the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art opened three exhibitions:

On 13 July the Archives held the opening of the exhibition “My brother” celebrating the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mikhas Mitskevich (Antos Galina), Belarusian writer, translator, pedagogue and public figure, younger brother of Yakub Kolas. The initiator and organizer of the exhibition is Yakub Kolas’s granddaughter, president of the Sakavik Children’s Foundation of Spiritual and Cultural Revival, Marya Mitskevich.

On 14 July, on the occasion of the Seventh World Congress of Belarusians, the art gallery “The Culture University” (The Palace of the Republic) opened an exhibition “Zora nad Vitaut” marking 90 years of the Belarusian figures in the United States, Zora and Vitaut Kipel. The exhibition has been organized by the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art, the World Association of Belarusians “Batskaushchyna” and the art gallery “The Culture University” of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts.

The Seventh World Congress of Belarusians, held on 15-16 July in Minsk, also included the exhibition “Following Francis Skaryna: the printing legacy of Belarusian immigrants in the West” based on the documents from the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art.

The Local State Archives in Kobrin, Brest Region, offers an exhibition of documents and photographs marking the 730th anniversary of the town of Kobrin.

The exhibition shows documents held in the Archives and photographs available from the Kobrin Military Historical Museum named after A.V. Suvorov.

By order of the director of the Department for Archives and Records Mangement of the Justice Ministry of 12 July 2017,Andrey Konstantinovich DEMIANYUK is appointed Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

A.K. Demianyuk, b. 1960, graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after A.M. Gorky in 1989, from the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Belarus in 2006.

A.K. Demianyuk started his work activity in 1978. From 1997 to 2002 he worked at the Secretariat of the Council of the Republic at the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, from 2002 to 2015 held the post of the administration executive officer at the Oktyabrsky district in Minsk, from 2015 to 2017 held the post of deputy general director in ideology and social issues at the City Road Works of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

On 12 July 2017 Director of the Department for Archives and Records Mangement of the Justice Ministry Viktor Kurash introduced Andrey Demianyuk to the staff of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

On 12 July 2017 the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus held a board meeting to discuss the following issues: the results of complex inspection at the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Records; inspection of financial and economic activities at the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Records; handling of inquiries from citizens and legal persons in archives and records institutions in the first half of 2017.

On discussing the results of complex inspection at the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Records, the Archive’s work was assessed satisfactory with the necessity to remove the shortcomings revealed during the inspection.

On the third issue it was noted that handling of inquiries from citizens and legal persons to Belarusian archives and records institutions in the first half of 2017 was conducted in compliance with Belarus Law of 18 July «On inquiries from citizens and legal persons», Presidential Decree of 15 October 207 ¹ 498 «On additional measures to handle inquries from citizens and legal persons», and Presidential Directive of 27 December 2006 ¹ 2 «On measures for further debureaucratization of the state apparatus».

The work of archival institutions in the reported period was directed at the timely and qualitative execution of inquiries and petitions. The Department for Archives and Records Management and the regional archives and records authorities execute permanent control over the observance of legislation in this sphere. No violations of legislation have been found.

Considerable attention in the first half of 2017 was paid to control over terms of execution of inquries and filling the internet resources with proper information. In addition, the state archives inform interested persons on the composition and contents of archival documents in the mass media.
