The State Archives of Minsk Region has prepared a virtual exhibition of documents, Komsomol is My Pride.

The exhibition presents interesting documents relating to the history of the Young Communist League (Komsomol) and the life of Komsomol members in Minsk Region.

On 15 September 2015 the Belarusian town of Smorgon hosted the events dedicated to 100 years since the beginning of the defense of this town during the First World War. The Smorgon Regional Museum held a round table on the topic “The state and perspectives of the studies and preservation of the military historical heritage of the First World War in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation : 100 Years of the Battle of Smorgon”. Attended at the round table were historians, archivists, museum workers and regional specialists.

The Belarusian and Russian archivists were represented at the event by the Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Adamushko and the Chief of the Federal Archival Agency of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, Andrei Artizov. At the round table they delivered reports on “Records of the state archives in Belarus relating to the events of the First World War” and “The Russian archives and the preservation of the memory of the First World War”.

The Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (BelNIIDAD) has released the Methodical Recommendations for Appraisal of Patent Records and their Selection for Permanent Preservation.

This procedural guidance provides principles and criteria to define scientific, historical and practical importance of patent records and to select them for preservation by the state. Examines issues concerning the
administration of patent records appraisal and the specifics of this activity by the patent agency and the institutions who are applicants and owners of industrial property rights. Also discusses issues of preparation
of the appraisal results and provides samples for relevant documents.

BelNIIDAD has released the General Filing Plan for District and Municipal Executive Committees.

This model filing classification plan aims to assist staff members of district and city executive committees in making individual classification plans. Provides a list of file titles according to the procedure of documenting
the standard functions of district and municipal executive committees, defines the optimal arrangement of files and their retention time on the basis of normative documents.

On the Day of Knowledge on 1st September, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V. Adamushko and Director of Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (BelNIIDAD) A. Rybakov took part in a meeting with first-year students of the History Faculty of the Belarusian State University (specializations of History and Archival Studies & Records Management).

During the meeting the new students were told about the profession of an archivist, the work of state archival institutions in the Republic of Belarus and the future perspectives.

02 September 2015
Chief of the department for relations with Russia and former USSR countries, microfilming project manager at the National Archives of Finland, Professor Dmitry Frolov makes a visit to Belarus on 31 August - 4 September 2015.

On 1 September 2015 a meeting was held at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus between Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V.I. Adamushko and Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus V.I. Kurash with Mr. D. Frolov. The sides signed the Agreement for cooperation between the Archives Department of Belarus and the National Archives of Finland and discussed issues of further development of bilateral relations in the field of archives and perspectives of joint archival projects. Professor D. Frolov will acquaint with activities of central state archives in Belarus and the State Archives of Vitebsk Region.

The national round table “Belarus and the UN: 70 Years Together” was held on 27 August 2015 at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The round table was organized as part of the anniversary events dedicated to the history and activities of the United Nations Organization, and the role of the Republic of Belarus in the processes taken place on the international arena.

Among the participants at the round table was Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, Mr. Adamushko, who delivered a report “Documents on the history of the United Nations at the state archives of the Republic of Belarus”.

On 30 July 2015 the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus held a board meeting to discuss issues of handling inquiries from citizens and legal entities at the state archival institutions in the first half of 2015 and to review results of work at the Department for Archives and Records Management in the first half of 2015.

The traditional, 14th meeting of archivists from Bryansk (Russia) and Gomel (Belarus) regional state archives took place in Vetka, Gomel Region on 26 June 2015.

The round table was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.

Belarusian archivists acquainted their Russian colleagues with a new collection of published documents “Gomel Region in 1943-1953: Documents and Materials”. The book has been prepared by the State Archives of Public Organisations of Gomel Region in collaboration with the State Archives of Gomel Region and the Local State Archives in Mozyr. The book offers 134 documents, most of which have been published for the first time. The book is illustrated with photographs selected from the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings, the State Archives of Public Organisations of Gomel Region, the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble State Historical Cultural Institution and Newspaper Gomelskaya Prauda.

The archivists from Bryansk Region (Russia) told of their documentary research into the memorial complex in the area of the former village of Rechechka, Klintsy district, Bryansk region – analogue of Belarusian Khatyn.

During the retreat on 23 September 1943 the Nazi invaders executed and burned all residents in the village of Rechechka, including babies and old men. The symbolic concrete doorways have been installed on the site of former houses in the destructed village. The plates on the door posts show the name and age of everyone who once lived there.

As part of the archival event the guests were shown the sights of Vetka and visited the Shklyarov Museum of Old Belief and Belarusian Traditions in Vetka.

The book presents documents and materials on the history of archives and archival science in Belarus, beginning from the creation of the first historical archives — the Central Archives of Early Records in Vitebsk — until the system of archival bodies and institutions had been transferred to the government of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic. The historical sources, most part of which have been published for the first time, cover approximately one hundred years of the events extremely important for the destiny of Belarusian archives and mark a complicated but dynamic transference from the departmental autonomy and the lack of system to the modern foundations of the archive business.

The book is intended for historians, archivists, students of the humanities, local specialists and everyone interested in the history and culture of Belarus.

The book draws on the domestic practices of sphragistic description as well as the newest achievements in the international sigillography.

The edition is intended for archivists, historical editors, museum researchers, historians, specialists in heraldry and sphragistics, collectors.

On 10-12 June 2015 the delegation of the National Historical Archives of Belarus headed by Director D. Yatsevich paid a visit to the Museum of King John III’s Palace at Wilanow (Warsaw, Poland).

Attendees at the official meeting dedicated to the perspectives of cooperation between archival and museum institutions in Belarus and Poland were Director of the National Historical Archives of Belarus D. Yatsevich, Director of the Museum of King John III’s Palace at Wilanow P. Jaskanis, Deputy Director General of State Archives of Poland A. Bernat, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland D. Januszewska-Jakubiak, Director of the Centre of Belarusian Culture at the Belarusian Embassy to Poland E. Shvaika and more.

The meeting resulted in signing a long-term agreement between the Archives and the Museum on cooperation in the field of research of the documentary heritage of the Sobieski family, which is held at the National Historical Archives of Belarus in the Fond “The Sobieski Archives at Olawa”. Belarusian archivists presented their Polish colleagues with the latest archive publications and acquainted with the practices of the museum’s exhibition and publication activities.

The delegation also visited the Belarusian Embassy in Poland and met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Poland A. Averyanov.
