16 November 2016
A professional meeting of the heads of archival services and state archival institutions of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus took place on 9 November 2016 in Bryansk, Russia.

The topic of the meeting – «The issues of records acquisition at the state archives».

Acting Governor of Bryansk Region, A.G. Rezunov took part at the event. The delegation of Russian archivists was headed by Director of the Federal Archival Agency A. N. Artizov. The delegation of Belarusian archivists was headed by Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry V.I. Adamushko. The delegations included staff members of the Federal Archival Agency and the Department for Archives and Records Management, directors of state archival institutions of Russia and Belarus.

The participants discussed the joint issues of the acquisition of archival material by the state archives, including personal papers. They also discussed the issues of work with the non-government organizations.

The next meeting of archivists of the two countries will take place in 2017 in Belarus.

Cover of the book “The Cultural and Educational Work in the Western Area of Vitebsk Region 1944-1950”
A collection of archival documents The Cultural and Educational Work in the Western Area of Vitebsk Region 1944-1950 was issued in print.

The book includes documents held at the Local State Archives in Glubokoye. The documents describe the restoration of activity in the cultural institutions in the first five-year period after the Second World War and cover the area of the present-day districts of Braslav, Dokshitsy, Glubokoye, Miory, Postavy and Sharkovshchina in Vitebsk Region, Belarus.

03 November 2016
A field meeting of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry was held on 1 November 2016 in Grodno. The meeting examined the results of the complex inspection of the National Historical Archives of Belarus in Grodno.

Following the discussion of the inspection results, the work of the National Historical Archives of Belarus in Grodno was found satisfactory with the necessity to remove the shortcomings revealed during the inspection.

03 November 2016
On 1 November 2016 the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation opened an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of Professor A. S. Rubanov, Doctor of Science in Physics and Mathematics, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The exhibition displays documents from Rubanov’s personal collection reflecting his bright and eventful life and research work.

25 October 2016
On 24 October 2016 Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management at the Belarusian Justice Ministry Vladimir Adamushko held a meeting with Director of the Lithuanian Central State Archives Dalius Zizys.

During the meeting they discussed the issues of implementation in 2017 of the joint exhibition project dedicated to the common social, political and cultural heritage of Belarus and Lithuania in the 20th century.

Attendees at the meeting were Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus Viktor Kurash, the Department’s Head of the Records and Information Use Grigory Zholnerkevich, and the Chief Archivist of the Lithuanian Central State Archives Ludmila Funikova.

24 October 2016
 Austrian historian Hubert Steiner presented with Honorary Diploma of the Department for Archives and Records Management On 21 October 2016 the Embassy of Belarus in Austria presented Honorary Diploma of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus to Hubert Steiner, Austrian historian and expert from the State Archives of Austria, who significantly contributed to the study of archival documents on the death camp at Maly Trostenets.

In handing the diploma, The Belarusian ambassador to Austria Valery Voronetsky thanked Hubert Steiner for his active participation in the research of the Nazi crimes conducted in the area of present Belarus. The Belarusian side highly appreciate the contribution by H. Steiner in the commemoration of the victims of the extermination camp Maly Trostenets, among whom were 10, 000 Austrian Jews deported from Vienna during the Second World War.

In January 2016 the Belarusian Embassy in Austria organized Hubert Steiner’s visit to Belarus. On 18 January in Minsk H. Steiner handed to the Belarusian side the copies of WWII deportation orders of Austrian Jews killed by the Nazis at Trostenets. During the visit H. Steiner held talks with the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, the National Archives and the authors of a collection of published documents and materials “Trostenets Death Camp”. The Austrian historian visited the Khatyn Memorial and was given a tour around the site of the future memorial complex at the place of the extermination camp Trostenets. He also spoke at a meeting with the representatives of the archival community in Belarus.

18 October 2016
On 19-20 October 2016 Minsk hosts a final stage of the republic-level competition “The Best Archivist in Belarus”. The competition is organized by the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry together with the Society of Belarusian Archivists. Participants at the contest are 16 staff members from the state archives in Belarus.

During the first stage the contestants submitted works on the topic “The cultural life through the prism of time”.

18 October 2016
An international scholarly conference “Audiovisual Records: 90 Years of Service to the Motherland” was held in Moscow on 12-14 October 2016 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Russian State Film and Photo Archives.

The conference is dedicated to the memory of V. M. Magidov, Doctor of History, Professor, member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. From the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings the participants at the conference were the deputy director E. M. Grinevich and the chief keeper A. K. Kot.

A. K. Kot delivered a report “The audiovisual records as art works”, and E. M. Grinevich a report “The main forms of the use of audiovisual records at the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings”.

06 October 2016
To celebrate the Archivist Day, the State Archives of Minsk Region has prepared an exhibition of documents describing the Archive’s activity from 1919 to the present. The exhibition shows the letter concerning the establishment of the archives in Minsk in 1919 directed by the head of the Minsk Council Archive to the Commissariat of People’s Education of the Russian SFSR; a questionnaire form for Tishka Gartny (D.F. Zhilunovich) who studied in the reading room of the Minsk Historical Archive; an 1936 instruction for the protection of archival repositories at the Minsk branch of the Central State Archives of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic etc.

06 October 2016
On 4 October 2016 the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art hosted the Fourteenth Archival Readings dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of the famous poet Maksim Bahdanovich (1891–1917), statesman and scholar Arkadz Smolich (1891–1938), and physician, public figure and journalist Ivan Tsvikevich (1891–1938).
