The National Library of Belarus hosted a round table “Historical Memory. Political Figures of the 20th Century in Literature”
On February 18, 2021, the National Library of Belarus hosted a round table “Historical Memory. Political Figures of the 20th Century in Literature”. The event was held as part of the XXVIII Minsk International Book Fair.
The participants of the round table – scientists, archivists, writers – discussed a wide range of issues: the role of the individual in politics, activities to popularize and involve archival materials in science, the preservation of historical memory through research projects and literary works, patriotic education of young people, etc.
V.I. Kourash, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, took part in the round table, noting that biographical research and publications are intended not only to fill the “blank spots” of national history, but also to make the past of the Belarusian people much closer, clearer and more interesting for the citizens of our country. V.I. Kourash informed the participants about the documentary materials held in the state archives of Belarus, which contain unique information about the prominent political figures of the country in the twentieth century, and also stressed that biographical research should be based on documentary materials, claiming to be objective in the presentation of facts.
The event included the presentation of the book “Nadezhda Grekova. Mikhail Malinin. Time to Remember” by N.A. Golubeva, Belarusian writer, scriptwriter, member of the Union of Writers of Belarus. The publication is based on documentary materials and is dedicated to Nadezhda Grekova, the first Chairperson of the Supreme Council of the BSSR, and her husband, Mikhail Malinin, a prominent Soviet commander, army general. When writing the book, the author actively used documentary sources from the Belarusian archives (including the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian State Archives of Scientific and Technical Documentation, the State Archives of Gomel Region, etc.).
