The 16th meeting of the Consultative Council of the Heads of State Archival Services of the CIS Member States was held on December 10, 2020

On December 10, 2020, the 16th meeting of the Consultative Council of the Heads of State Archival Services of the CIS Member States (hereinafter the Consultative Council) was held. Due to the unfavorable sanitary and epidemiological situation, the meeting was held in the format of a video conference.

For reference: The Consultative Council of Heads of State Archival Services of the CIS Member States was established by the Decision of the CIS Economic Council on behalf of the Council of CIS Heads of Government on December 3, 2004 “On the Creation of the Consultative Council of the Heads of State Archival Services of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States.” The Council is a body of branch cooperation of the CIS and was created to jointly examine topical issues of archive business and develop mechanisms for their solution.

The Belarusian side was represented by the Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus V. I. Kourash.

The meeting discussed a number of urgent issues of cooperation (including information on the measures taken in the CIS member states in archive business aimed at minimizing the negative consequences caused by the COVID-19 pandemic for the economies of the CIS member states). The results of work of archival services in 2020 were summed up and the plans of action were announced for 2021. The meeting also positively agreed to the joining of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Consultative Council.

The Chairman of the Consultative Council was elected for the next period. By unanimous decision V.I. Kourash, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, was elected to this position.
