Signing of an Agreement of Cooperation between the Department for Archives and Records Management and the State of Israel’s Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial

On 1-5 March 2020 the delegation of the Archival Service of the Republic of Belarus headed by Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry Victor Kourash paid a visit to the State of Israel at the invitation of the Yad Vashem National Holocaust and Heroism Memorial.

The event included the Israeli-Belarusian seminar “Documents on the history of the Holocaust in Belarus and the use of modern technologies in archive business”.

On 4 March 2020 in Jerusalem an agreement of cooperation was signed between the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and the Yad Vashem National Holocaust and Heroism Memorial.

The agreement was signed by Victor Kourash, Director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus and Avner Shalev, General Director of the Yad Vashem.

Evgeny Vorobyov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the State of Israel participated in the signing ceremony.

The Belarusian-Israeli cooperation in archives has been developing since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Belarus and Israel has traditionally been connected by many mutual interests, including close personal relations of the ordinary citizens.

The agreement on cooperation between the Republic of Belarus Department for Archives and Records Management and the Yad Vashem was in force from 2011, mainly focusing on the period of the Holocaust.

The newly-signed Agreement is directed at further strengthening of Belarusian-Israeli relations in the field of archives and expansion of cooperation in revealing the information about the life of the Jewish people in Belarus on the eve of the Catastrophe in the Second World War.
