Historical background

The Archives was established in March 1940 as the Mogilev Regional Party Archives, and contained records of the Communist Party and Komsomol regional and district committees and local organizations.

In the Second World War the archives were evacuated to the Tambov region in Russia, and later were transferred to the Party Archives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) of Belarus. The Archives resumed its work on November 5, 1947.

In 1982 the regional party archives acquired 60 827 files of the Party and Komsomol committees and organizations that functioned in the Mogilev region from 1918 to 1941, transferred from the Party Archives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (of Bolsheviks) of Belarus.

In March 1992 on the basis of the Mogilev Regional Party Archives, the Branch of the State Archives of Mogilev Region was founded in Mogilev.

In September 1996 the Branch was reorganized as the State Archives of Public Organizations of Mogilev Region.
